US Open

2023
Howl Motion partnered with Van Wagner to bring the 2023 US Open’s main theme artwork to life through motion, celebrating 50 years of equal prize money for men and women at the tournament. It was a milestone we were especially proud to help commemorate, creating a motion piece that captured the energy of one of tennis’s biggest stages while honoring an important moment in sports history.
The animation became a recurring part of the tournament experience at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City, playing during breaks in play, between matches, and following victories throughout the tournament, including the championship finals.
Seeing the animation come to life in person at the 2023 Women’s Final was a highlight, especially witnessing just how prominently the work was featured throughout the event.

Multiple Sizes
Bringing the theme animation to life across the US Open meant adapting the artwork to 18 unique screen sizes and configurations throughout Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, and the surrounding tournament grounds. From vertical displays to ultra-wide ribbon boards, each format presented its own creative and technical challenges.
Court-level screen cutouts, ribbon board corners, and extreme aspect ratios required us to thoughtfully rework compositions rather than simply resize them, ensuring every animation felt purpose-built for its display while maintaining a cohesive visual identity across the entire venue.

Global Reach
The scale of an event like the US Open is hard to fully appreciate until you see your work become part of it. What began as a single theme art animation reached far beyond the stadium screens, making appearances on global broadcasts and even in an Instagram post shared by Billie Jean King herself, commemorating the 50th anniversary of equal prize money.
Knowing the animation helped celebrate such an important milestone in tennis history made this project especially meaningful to us. Seeing it become part of the tournament, both in person and through moments shared with audiences around the world, was an experience we're incredibly grateful to have been part of.
