Howl Motion has partnered with the Dallas Stars to create custom goal animation templates for the team’s social channels across multiple seasons. Built from the ground up around each year’s visual identity, we develop the motion design and edit media day footage to amplify the energy of every Stars goal. Each animation is then transformed into a streamlined, editable template that allows the team to spotlight individual players throughout the season.
Created for both regular season and playoff campaigns, the animations bring a cohesive, year-specific visual identity to every goal celebration.
Motion Exploration
With each set of goal animations, we explore how to bring the Dallas Stars’ existing visual identity to life through motion, building on the team’s branding to create a distinct look for each campaign.
Moving textures, motion blur, and layered typography add energy and intensity, while carefully stylized Media Day footage is treated to complement each season’s visual direction. Throughout the process, we look for opportunities to integrate the Stars’ logo and other team identifiers, creating a cohesive animation system that feels authentic to the brand.
Templating
We take just as much pride in how our templates function as we do in how they look. Each animation is built with a clean, intuitive After Effects interface that allows the Stars’ media team to quickly swap player names and footage without digging through complicated compositions.
By building directly in After Effects rather than using a traditional Motion Graphics Template (.mogrt), we were able to push the creative possibilities further without sacrificing ease of use. We even carried the Stars’ branding into the template interface itself, making the editing experience feel like a natural extension of the final animation.
The result is a flexible, approachable system that anyone who has used After Effects before can confidently navigate and customize throughout the season.
